Hey, Happy Rainy Monday!

I’m working through a backlog of TV shows and movie requests that I’ve received. In addition to watching the Marvel Universe for the first time, I’ve also been watching the movies below and the entire first season of Ted Lasso. I’ll review that once I’ve completed season two, but I at least wanted to get my thoughts out regarding the movies you see here. As always, if you have other requests for things I should be watching feel free to let me know.

Movies that I watched since Volume 6:

I’ve got some exciting news to share!

I’ve been bitten by the entrepreneurial bug so I’ve been looking into various business ideas. I was really disappointed to see my main money making idea come to fruition without my involvement. The idea revolved around alternate commentary for sporting events and Peyton Manning and Donald Trump beat me to the punch. That’s why I’m shifting gears to my new great idea. Wedding speech writing.

I’ve only ever written one wedding speech and it was a resounding success. I’m actually in the process of writing a second wedding speech — wish me luck…

I’ve been a big fan of actor Romany Malco for years. Some of you may know Romany from “The 40 Year Old Virgin”, “Night School”, “Weeds” or “Think Like A Man”. His comedic acting and timing are impeccable, and his online character Tijuana Jackson has been cracking me up for years. I was also a Kickstarter investor in his film “Tijuana Jackson: Purpose Over Prison” and got to see an advanced screening of the film before it’s online release. That’s why I was taken aback when accusations began to fly that he was being accused of plagiarism.

Tijuana Jackson’s…

What do you think of when you hear the word “innovation”?

When I think of innovation I think of something truly groundbreaking. Something that emerges that had never been seen before and takes the world by storm. There’s a very thin line between innovation and simply combining things that had already existed, but that’s what I think makes it special. And we haven’t seen any innovation in a very long time.

We see tons of improvements every day in all facets of life. Video games have seen a dramatic improvement in graphics and realism but computer games existed as long…

I hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day Weekend and did at least one of the things I kindly requested in my birthday newsletter. If not, there’s always next year. Speaking of nexts, today is my first official newsletter in September which means it’s time for Useless Observations! The previous installment can be found here. Shall we?

UO #1: What is the cut-off period for being able to claim a city or state that you don’t live in anymore? Is it elementary school? Middle school? High school? Can I still say that I’m from Virginia even though I’ve spent…

People are my inspiration for most of these newsletters. I’m fascinated by how people interact with each other, how people justify the things that they do, and how social media has become an integral part of many people’s lives. One aspect that often gets overlooked is how stubborn people can be, and I figured I’d use a very real example to prove my point here.

Most college students move into their dorms or apartments at the end of August because most leases align with the beginning of the school year. In Boston, this is referred to as “Moving Season”

I have a confession to make.

I started this newsletter series this week strictly so I could write this newsletter you’re about to read. I’ll re-evaluate this after this newsletter to see where else I could take this series, and I’m open to feedback from everyone. But the scenario to discuss today is:

What happens if Lil Flip signs to Def Jam Records in 2002?

Brad Jordan, better known by his stage name Scarface, is a legendary rapper from Houston and a founding member of the iconic rap group The Geto Boys. The Geto Boys and Scarface as a solo act had both been signed to Texas hip hop label Rap-A-Lot, but…

I had the idea to discuss some Twilight Zone type stories where we all wonder what happens if key occurrences in the entertainment or sports industries never take place. And the scenario I’d like to start with is:

What happens if City Spud never robs someone in 1999?

Lavell Webb, better known by his nickname City Spud, is a rapper and producer from St. Louis, Missouri. He is a member of the platinum-selling hip hop group St. Lunatics, which also includes Ali, Murphy Lee, Kyjuan and Nelly. They had begun to gain regional fame with their local hit single “Gimme What U Got” and this led to Nelly getting…

When is it okay to say that someone’s wife tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios?

While watching NFL preseason games and NBA Summer League games, I’m reminded that fall sports are really around the corner. The past month has been that glorious time of year where every play in the SportsCenter Top 10 is a baseball catch. A lot of the same uncertainty that happened last fall because of Covid-19 is now rearing its head again, but that’s not going to stop the games from happening or fans from attending. …

I prefer being honest with you all, since you’re taking time out of your day to read my newsletter, and I have a confession to make. According to the survey results, I’ve been putting toilet paper on the roll wrong my entire life. Not sure how this could’ve happened, or how no one cared to tell me this the past 33 years, but I can’t fix the past. I’d like to apologize to everyone and instead shift gears towards something that I can’t be wrong on. My opinion!

My first “Petty Betty” newsletter was about a topic that hits…
