The official trailer for the “Space Jam” remake starring LeBron James was released this past weekend. This movie has been in the works for quite some time, but it still feels weird seeing yet another classic movie get a remake. Hollywood remaking movies is not a new phenomenon, but it feels like there’s less and less original ideas these days coming out of major film studios. And now we can add LeBron’s new film to the list.
I wouldn’t mind all of the remakes coming out of Hollywood if they were better than the original movie. Animated movie remakes…
This is all Berry Gordy’s fault.
Berry Gordy is music industry royalty. He’s a songwriter, executive, and founder of the legendary Motown Records. He also produced one of my favorite films ever, “The Last Dragon.” He is renowned as a music visionary with a keen eye for talent and exceptional business acumen. In order to achieve his dreams, sometimes he had to tell a white lie every now and then.
Happy Thoughts and Prayers Day!
We’re off to a blistering start for 2021. Today is the first day of April, and we’ve already accomplished so much this year it puts 2020 to shame. We’re making up for lost time, and I for one couldn’t be happier. After years of criticism, I think we should take the holiday to appreciate all that thoughts and prayers have done for us so far this year.
You have to tip your hat to how ESPN has been the dominant figure in sports coverage for nearly 40 straight years. From the struggle to get ESPN into households, to ESPN being in over 90% of households with cable television, to surviving the recent cord-cutting phenomenon, it seems like ESPN is always one step ahead of its competitors. ESPN seems to have left behind anything that’s not either sports talk television or actual live broadcasts — sorry Stump The Schwab fans — and has even taken the step to partner with individual universities or conferences for broadcast rights…
I signed up for Paramount+ a few weeks ago in order to watch Manchester City play in the Champions League, but I’ve decided to keep my subscription to check out their exclusive content. There’s a hodgepodge of random channels and shows that are cool, even though the last season of “Ex on the Beach” is missing, but what I’ve enjoyed watching the most is “The Real World Homecoming.”
I’m really disappointed by the news that 20 European soccer teams are breaking away from their current leagues and forming a new European Super League. I’m also disappointed that my favorite team, Manchester City, is among this rogue bunch of teams. The details are still emerging, but this feels like a truly landmark shift in the sports and business landscapes. One that we all should have seen coming.
This video sums it up nicely, but the gist is that most of the world’s largest and most marketable soccer teams in Europe are creating their own version of the NFL…
What does accountability mean?
the quality or state of being accountable especially an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one’s actions
From this definition it seems like being accountable involves being in a position of leadership or authority and doing the right things because of willingness to accept the responsibility of how your actions turn out. Whether there are good or bad outcomes, this implies that inaction should also…

In keeping with the theme of watching old movies that I missed, I decided to travel down a detour and watch every episode of “Jersey Shore”. The show was iconic for good and bad reasons, and I felt it fit with the premise of experiencing huge pop culture moments in entertainment now. Similar to the other Movie Club newsletters, I’m going to post my thoughts after watching all six seasons. Without further ado, let’s get into it.
2021 has been just as eventful as 2020 was. We had an insurrection, people still haven’t received the rest of their stimulus money, Mr. Potato Head is now gender neutral, and last but not least the world is still racist. I need to thank Meyers Leonard for bringing that back to everyone’s attention.
Leonard is an NBA player who played for last year’s bubble championship runner-up Miami Heat. He’s a decent rotational option big man who is able to stretch the floor with his outside shooting but I’ve digressed. Leonard had season-ending shoulder surgery last month and has been…
I hope everyone’s bracket is as busted as mine. The round of 32 finishes today and halfway through the round of 32 not a single perfect bracket remains. This year’s March Madness tournament has lived up to the hype after last year’s edition was cancelled, and there have been no shortage of upsets. Although upset wins by Ohio, Abilene Christian, North Texas and Oregon State were impressive, none were more impressive than two consecutive wins by Oral Roberts University.
Oral Roberts University is a tiny private school in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It is named after famed Evangelical Christian Oral Roberts…
