Blue Bloods

Hey,

I’ve been doing some ethnographic research recently. I’ve been speaking with individuals from all walks of life: conservative and liberal, male and female, old and young, married and single, and everything in-between. Despite everyone’s various differences, there’s only one thing that everyone unanimously agrees on. And that is on Fridays at 10pm EST, their parents watch “Blue Bloods”.

I have to admit that I’ve only seen parts of a few episodes of “Blue Bloods” and you guessed it, I was visiting my parents and they had it on. It seemed like a straightforward enough cop show, but the fascination that all parents have with the show is incredible to witness. I also have to acknowledge that 10pm on a Friday is usually past most parents’ bedtime, but they have the dedication and commitment to never miss an episode. I haven’t seen anything like this since “The West Wing”.

For those of you that watch “Blue Bloods,” I have a few simple questions that I’m going to ask to see if this phenomenon can be explained. If I’m missing out on one of the greatest shows on television let me know. There has to be a reason this show has been around for twelve seasons at this point. If you do watch the show, I’m looking forward to hearing responses to these questions:

  • What do you like best about it?
  • What makes it different from other cop shows?
  • Who is your favorite actor or actress on the show?
  • Who is your favorite character on the show?
  • What other cop shows do you enjoy watching?
  • Did you also watch “The West Wing” when it was on TV?

This is a judgment-free zone. I only want to get to the bottom of what’s happening here.
