Jimmy Buckets

There was a time in my life when I couldn’t get enough of conspiracy theories. Unfortunately, this also coincided with the 2016 presidential election and I went down the Seth Rich rabbit hole, but I’ve come out on the other side of that stronger, wiser, and less prone to believe political nonsense. Now and then though, a conspiracy theory pops up that’s too good to be true and I’m tempted to go back to my old ways.

I follow a Subreddit called r/AskReddit where people pose questions to the overall Reddit community for all to answer. It’s my second favorite Subreddit next to r/OutOfTheLoop, which is where I’m able to stay abreast of what’s happening in the world without needing to give LifeLog, I mean Meta, all of my personal information. One of the recent posts on r/AskReddit was asking users “What is your favorite conspiracy theory?” There were some off-the-wall responses in there, such as Michael Jackson being the bastard lovechild of Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson, but one that caught my eye was a theory that Jimmy Butler is the illegitimate child of Michael Jordan.

The alleged rumor is that while Jordan played for the Chicago Bulls, he visited Houston, Texas after a road game against the Dallas Mavericks on December 3rd, 1988. While there, he impregnated a woman who would give birth to Butler on September 14th, 1989. Butler has no clue who his father is, and he lived alone with his mother until he turned 13 years old. At age 13, Butler said his mother told him “I don’t like the look of you. You gotta go” and kicked him out of the house in the Houston suburb of Tomball, Texas. He would bounce around different friends’ homes until he eventually moved in with a high school teammate’s family and the rest of Butler’s story is history.

The Reddit post includes two photos, I’ll include them here and here, which are side-by-side pictures of Butler and Jordan. After looking at the pictures I began to think that this theory is plausible. Despite what “The Last Dance” wants you to believe, it has been alleged for quite some time that Jordan is a pretty terrible human being. From being a womanizer to a gambling addict, which may or may not have led to his father’s murder, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Jordan would have a child out of wedlock and completely ignore his existence.

As with all conspiracy theories, take all of this with a grain of salt. This isn’t about a government cover-up or some other devious master scheme. This is all seemingly harmless fun that won’t have a resolution. Will Butler ever come out and say that Jordan is his father? No. Will Jordan ever acknowledge that he is Butler’s father? No. Instead, we have a series of things that could technically have occurred, but we will have no proof during our lifetime unless there was a company that specializes in digging up dirt on celebrities and sports figures.

How can I get this to TMZ?
