In all seriousness today is Martin Luther King Day, so I’m going to take this day off to rest, enjoy and watch some movies. I’m trying to work through the extensive list of movies I’ve received. Thanks so much for all the recommendations and definitely keep them coming in. Here’s an update on the latest movies that I’ve seen, and as a bonus, here’s the American Film Institute’s list of top 100 movies of the last 100 years. How many have you seen on this list? I’ve seen 17. Shocking I know, but I’ve digressed.

Movies that I watched since Volume 4:

• The Christmas Chronicles — I saw half of this while out of town in Boston so I’m counting it. It was pretty amusing and I liked the modern twist on a Santa Claus story. I’d recommend checking this one out.
• A Christmas Story — Several people told me I needed to watch this classic so I checked it out on Christmas Eve. This movie started out super slow, but by the time that they got the leg lamp everything was rolling from there. This was a great movie and I now see what all the fuss was about.
• The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause — I also saw half of this one while out of town. This was a paint by numbers sequel to cash in on a successful franchise. Nothing groundbreaking, but decent fodder to have in the background while opening presents or gathering with loved ones.
• Soul — This was a great, trippy movie. Everything that happened made sense by the end, and I was highly entertained. I’m curious how I would like it on another view after knowing the plot twists, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
• Death to 2020 — This faux documentary was awesome and I laughed at pretty much all of it. The creators of “Black Mirror” can do no wrong, and I was highly entertained. Also, it made me aware of how long 2020 was and how much crazy stuff happened this year.
• Peppermint — This movie was awesome. I love it when movies don’t waste a lot of time on backstory and get right into the action. This movie was the right length, right amount of action, right amount of story and right amount of Jennifer Garner. Highly recommend this one.
• The Killing of a Sacred Deer — I loved this movie, but it was super weird. I honestly was creeped out by half of the movie and half of the dialogue, but by the end it at least made sense. This is one of those super artsy movies that if you watch movies all the time you appreciate the differences in this film.
• Reservoir Dogs — I love “Pulp Fiction” so this movie was right up my alley. Learning that it was Quentin Tarantino’s first film explains a lot of what happens in his later films. Overall I loved this movie and I would watch it again several times, despite the racist language that has seemingly no place in the movie.
• Lucky Number Slevin — This movie was dope. Loved the cast and loved the dialogue and I totally wasn’t expecting the twist at the end. Another great movie to check out if you haven’t seen it already.
• 30 Days of Night — I honestly don’t know how to describe this movie. I have a love/hate relationship with most horror/zombie movies because you have to suspend logic and disbelief in order to enjoy them. I know that this movie wanted to establish fear and the threat of the zombies, but I honestly don’t know if I would go out of my way to watch this movie again.
