Atlanta didn’t Atlanta!

In a drastic change of events that I didn’t see coming, the Atlanta Hawks kept their resolve and were able to win Game 7 on the road last night against the Philadelphia 76ers. Not only were the Hawks able to hold off great performances by Joel Embiid and Seth Curry, they were also able to weather an all-time awful performance from their best player Trae Young. We’ve now entered uncharted territory for this young Hawks team, and I’m very excited for what comes next.

In the Eastern Conference Finals, the Hawks will be matched up against the Milwaukee Bucks, who have one of the league’s most unstoppable talents in “The Greek Freak” Giannis Antetokounmpo. The question becomes whether the Bucks’ front-court loaded roster can withstand the Hawks’ Bench Mob, led by Danilo Gallinari and “Lemon Pepper” Lou Williams. Once the Hawks prove they’re able to withstand the Bucks, it will then be up to the Hawks to show that they can also play basketball in the dark and play 6 on 5 whenever NBA referee Scott Foster is added to the mix.

In short, the Hawks and somehow-still-interim-head-coach Nate McMillan will have their work cut out for them. But as they’ve been in every game up to this point, the Hawks will be underdogs hoping to rewrite the history books and establish their names along the other great sports upsets and comebacks. I’ll be rooting for this team change the destiny of Atlanta sports and leave their mark on all of the city’s other franchises.

Or, you know, Atlanta could Atlanta.
